Christmas Trees
Christmas World stocks both real and artificial Christmas trees for Australian homes. Our artificial range spans 1.2m tabletop models to 2.7m premium hinged trees (bare or pre-lit with factory-strung LEDs), while fresh-cut real trees are available from late November at our Belrose, Alexandria and Penrith stores. Choosing Between Real and Artificial Christmas Trees
The first decision isn't height or style — it's whether you want the pine scent and single-season authenticity of a real tree or the repeatable, fluff-and-store convenience of an artificial one. We stock both at Christmas World. Fresh-cut real trees are available at our eight NSW stores from late November (pre-order opens earlier), while our artificial range spans 1.2m tabletop models through to 2.7m premium hinged trees with pre-strung LED options.
Browse Trees by Type
Real Christmas Trees
Fresh-cut trees from the Dural farm, in-store at Belrose, Alexandria and Penrith through the season. In-store pickup only.
Artificial Christmas Trees
Hinged PVC branch construction from 1.2m to 2.7m. Most popular category — reusable, fire-retardant, available pre-lit or bare.
Pre-Lit LED Trees
Arrive with lights factory-strung into the branches. Eliminates the wrapping step — assemble, shape and plug in.
Fibre Optic Trees
Colour-shifting fibre strands that cycle through the spectrum from a single light source. A different lighting aesthetic to LED.
Tree Skirts
Fabric, faux-fur and sequinned bases that hide the tree stand and catch fallen needles. Sized to match tree diameter.
Tree Stands & Bases
Steel and plastic stands for real trees, plus decorative pot covers and collars for artificial tree bases.
Tree Toppers
Stars, angels, bows and themed finials that crown the tree. Choose by spike mounting or clip base.
Finding the Right Tree Height for Your Room
Leave at least 30cm between the top of the tree and the ceiling for a topper. A 2.1m tree (the 7ft benchmark) is the most common choice for Australian homes with standard 2.7m ceilings.
Real Trees: Fresh-Cut Availability in NSW
We operate an annual fresh-cut tree program from our Belrose, Alexandria and Penrith stores. Trees are cut locally in NSW and delivered weekly from late November through Christmas Eve. The most popular varieties we stock are radiata pine (full, bushy branches) and noble-style fir (sturdy upward branches that hold heavier ornaments). Pre-ordering opens in October — see our real Christmas trees Sydney page for availability, pricing and pickup details. Real trees require a water-holding stand and regular watering to last through December.
Artificial Trees: Hinged vs Hooked Branch Construction
Most of our artificial range uses hinged branch construction — branches are permanently attached to the centre pole with metal hinges that fold down during setup. This means no sorting or colour-coding branches; assembly for a 2.1m tree takes about 15 minutes. Older hooked branch designs require inserting each branch individually into colour-coded slots, which takes 45 minutes or more. All our current stock is hinged for speed.
Pre-Lit vs Bare Trees
Pre-lit (LED-strung) trees arrive with lights factory-woven into the branches. A 2.1m pre-lit tree typically carries 400 to 800 LEDs depending on model. The trade-off: if a string fails you're rewiring or replacing the affected section rather than simply swapping a loose string. Bare trees give you full control over bulb count, colour and spacing — our fairy lights and cluster lights are the typical choice for wrapping.
Fibre Optic Trees
Fibre optic trees use a single halogen or LED source that sends light through fibre strands to the branch tips, cycling through colours automatically. They're low-maintenance and visually distinct from LED, but the colour-shifting effect is not for everyone. See our fibre optic range if you're considering this option.
How Many Lights and Baubles for Your Tree?
A practical rule for bare artificial trees: 100 fairy-light LEDs per 30cm of tree height. So a 2.1m tree takes roughly 700 LEDs minimum, with 1000 to 1200 giving a fuller look. For baubles, a 2.1m tree dresses well with 40 to 60 baubles, stepping up to 80+ for a dense, layered effect. Our Christmas Lights Calculator and Tree Calculator give exact numbers based on your tree size and density preference.
Setting Up and Shaping Artificial Trees
Fluffing — separating and angling each branch tip — is the single biggest visual difference between a tree that looks real and one that looks flat. Work from the bottom up, pulling each tip outward and slightly downward. Expect to spend 20 minutes on a 2.1m tree. The more time you spend shaping, the fuller the tree reads, even with no decorations on it.
Storage and Care
- Store artificial trees in their original box or a dedicated tree storage bag in a dry, cool area.
- Compress branches gently back against the trunk before boxing — forcing branches damages the hinging.
- For real trees, keep the water reservoir topped up daily. A well-watered radiata pine typically lasts four to six weeks.
- Remove LED strings before storing to prevent wire fatigue.
Pair Your Tree With
- Baubles and ornaments sized to your tree — 7cm to 10cm for a 2.1m tree is the sweet spot.
- Christmas lights if your tree is bare — fairy or cluster strings as above.
- A tree skirt that covers the stand and adds a finished base.
- A topper — star, angel or themed finial to crown the display.

Frequently Asked Questions — Christmas Trees
What is the most popular artificial tree size in Australia?
The 2.1m (7ft) tree is our top seller. It suits standard 2.7m Australian house ceilings while still making a substantial statement. A 1.8m (6ft) tree is the next most popular choice for apartments and units.
How long do real Christmas trees last indoors?
A properly watered radiata pine lasts four to six weeks. The key is using a water-holding stand and keeping the reservoir topped up daily — a tree can drink up to a litre in the first week.
Are artificial trees fire-resistant?
Our artificial trees are manufactured with fire-retardant PVC that meets Australian safety standards. This means the material resists ignition, but it should still be kept away from open flames and heat sources.
How do I know if a pre-lit tree will have enough lights?
As a guide, a 2.1m pre-lit tree typically carries 400 to 800 LEDs. If you prefer a very dense, bright look, check the LED count on the product listing — higher counts mean fuller coverage without adding strings.
Can I buy a real tree online?
Real trees are pick-up only from our Belrose, Alexandria and Penrith stores. We don't ship fresh-cut trees. Pre-ordering opens in October — see our real trees page for details.
How do I stop my artificial tree looking sparse?
Fluffing is the answer. Spend 20 minutes separating and angling each branch tip outward and slightly down. This alone transforms a flat-looking tree into one that reads full, before a single decoration goes on.
What stand do I need for a real tree?
A water-holding stand with a reservoir is essential. We stock steel and heavy-duty plastic stands in multiple sizes. Match the stand capacity to your tree height — a 2.1m tree needs a stand rated for at least that height.
Do you stock half trees for tight spaces?
Yes — our Lapland Half and Aurora Half trees (both 2.1m) are designed to sit flat against a wall, giving a full-tree look while using half the floor space. Ideal for apartments and corners.
